PBS Frontline: Inheritance

(2014)

The Lockerbie bombing left fragments of David Dornstein’s life behind, but their discovery gave his brother a new purpose—to gather what went missing, preserve what was left, and work to make sense of it all. Inheritance is an award-winning interactive documentary addressing the relationship between Ken Dornstein and his brother David, who was killed in the Pan AM Flight 103 bombing in 1988. It is seen as a companion piece to Ken Dornstein’s broadcast film My Brother’s Bomber.

During my fellowship at MIT’s Open Documentary Lab, artists and technologists teamed up to build experimental interactive works beyond their individual capabilties. Conversations with fellow Raney Aronson-Rath (Frontline) lead to teaming up with Michelle Mizner, Sarah Moughty, Chris Amico, and Ly Chheng on what would become Inheritance, Frontline’s first breakthrough interactive story.
