Hollow: An Interactive Documentary

(2013)

Hollow is an award-winning interactive documentary and community participatory project that examines the future of rural America through the eyes and voices of those living in McDowell County, W.Va. Hollow combines video portraits, data visualizations, photography, soundscapes, community-generated content and grassroots mapping to bring these stories to life through an interactive experience.

Hollow was a 2012 Tribeca Film Institute New Media Fund grantee and was recognized by many interactive media institutions such as SXSW, IDFA DocLab, and the Webbys. It also received attention from Joe Manchin, US Senator from West Virginia, who hosted more than 250 guests in the United States Capitol Building for a special viewing of Hollow, along with the project’s team and residents from the McDowell County community.
